Workshops

Do I need to pay for family activities ?

No, once you are on the site and have passed through the ticket office, you can access all the activities available, subject to availability (this commitment is not contractually binding).

Why are there no family activities during term time ?

During term time, our facilitators are all hard at work to offer all sorts of educational activities to classes, from reception to the end of secondary school. This means they can’t offer activities to individual visitors. During French Zone B holidays, we do however try to put on 1 or 2 activities every day, depending on staff availability.

Can I find out about the activities available to individual visitors in advance ?

No. You can check the programme of activities when you arrive at SPARKOH!. You can then plan your day according to the activity themes and the exhibitions you’re interested in.

However, in the “activities” tab, under “A family”, you can get an idea of the possible activities available; some of them are put on every day, subject to the availability of the facilitators.

As an individual visitor, do I need to book to take part in an activity ?

No, there is no advance booking. You can check the programme of activities when you arrive at SPARKOH!. You can then plan your day according to the activity themes available and the times for each one, as well as whichever exhibitions you’re interested in.

Can we go to the top of the Pit-Head Frame ?

Access to the Pit-Head Frame is not currently permitted for safety reasons.

Are climbs of the slag heap planned for individual visitors ?

We do not offer accompanied climbs of the slag heap, except during specific events. You are however free to walk up to the top and enjoy the stunning view of the region.
